| How much of Earth’s water is freshwater? |
|
The statistics about water are just as fluid and changing as water itself. Melting glaciers, deforestation, pumping non-renewable ground water, and pollution are all reducing the amount of usable freshwater available on earth. This is all happening at a time when our population is growing at around 75 million more people per year.

Most of the water on the planet is found in the oceans in the form of saltwater. Less than 3 percent is freshwater. Roughly two thirds of the freshwater is locked up in glaciers and ice caps. So we can only use about 1% of Earth's water for drinking and for growing food.
