Is the Earth round?
User Rating: / 5

Earth is about 41 km wider at the equator

Ever since elementary school, we have been taught that the Earth is round. But, contrary to common belief the answer is No.

The Earth is an oblate spheroid; which means it is somewhat squashed down at the poles and bulges at the equator. The equator is only about 40.89 kilometers (25.41 miles) wider so it's not really noticeable in most photographs. Some more extreme examples of oblate spheroids are M&M and Skittle candies.

Life is like a box of chocolates and the earth is like M&Ms.
